A review of The Swan Inn by Mike Capey written on Saturday 22nd of November 2008
I'm fed up with pub books proclaiming their wares. They are full of half truths. The pubs are often cold in the winter, empty..
My wife and I travel a good deal by canal, visiting scores of pubs. Some of them are good, or very good.
The Shroppie Fly, for instance, at Audlem in Cheshire. The Junction Arms at Norbury in Staffordshire.
And when in Norfolk - we visit the Bird in Hand in Wreningham, or the Belgian Monk in Norwich, or the Rushcutter in Thorpe.
NOWHERE, IN OUR EXPERIENCE MATCHES THE SWAN IN LONG STRATTON.
ESPECIALLY TRY A SUNDAY LUNCH..
EVERYTHING IS HOME MADE, TO THE MOST LUXURIANT STANDARDS
EVEN THE MUSTARD!!!!
(Ihave no shares in this; and I have no interest; the chef is brilliant, the landlord is rude, but very generous - basically good at heart, I suppose.
But when Simon Hoggart of The Guardian goes on about food - he hasn't any idea about what a meal is really about. (I suppose that's because he works for The Guardian?)
TRY IT AND SEE
