21/11/2021 .
I have never left any of my dogs in kennels as I have never- TRUSTED- anyone to care for my dogs like I do .
I popped into Hawthorne kennels and chatted with Richard about Lady's behaviour and he confirmed what I knew already , Lady needed to meet more people and dogs and be shown that not all dogs will attack her and people hurt her and she needed time away from me to show her that I would be coming back for her and she can trust other people .
She needed more socializing and with everything we all have had to deal with this year and where I live I struggled to give her what she really needed .
Lady is a Romanian Rescue dog and would bark /squeal and jump and panic , people were seeing what they thought was an aggressive dog coming towards them -WHEN -really she is super friendly and just wants to interact with them.
I took Lady to training classes and she was not getting what she wanted and needed , she needed to interact with others and classes were not the place for her as others were there to get help with training and did not want a boisterous dog that had no idea how to behave around them disrupting what their dogs were there for .
Lady had 3 sessions with a behaviourist and then 6 classes , 9 weeks in total of hell for Lady as she could not really interact with people and dogs .
It was breaking my heart seeing her so stressed .
After chatting to Richard and then later on taking Lady to meet Richard I made the decision to board Lady with Richard ,it was something I did not take lightly ,TRUSTING SOMEONE ELSE WITH MY GIRL.
Seeing Lady trot off with Richard for half an hour and then back to me -RELAXED- made the decision a little easier .
10 days of boarding and training with Richard .
I knew when I left Lady there was not going to be any quick fixes with her behaviour but needed help to get us started .
I went to pick her up and Richard showed me what he had achieved with her , I stood out of the way so she could not see me and I could not believe I was looking at the same girl I had left there 10 days before .
She was relaxed , she listened and did as Richard asked and behaved like a girl that was really happy and -NOT- stressed .
Lady now listens to me and walks to heel , something I struggled with ,she still acts out a LITTLE, but she and I now are working as a team . She now listens .
I know it will take time to for Lady to really trust the big world- BUT- Richard has broken down some of the wall she had up to protect herself .
I had been working on getting Lady used to wearing a collar or harness since 28/03/2021 and Lady would panic the minute she saw her collar , she would run and hide and you could see the fear in her eyes , when she came back from Hawthorn farm she was less fearful of the collar and after 3 days of been home with me she started to touch her collar with her nose and on the 4th day home she sat and let me put her collar on without any fuss , Richard has giving Lady more confidents and showed her that her collar is a good thing .
I will defiantly be using Hawthorns Kennels again .
Julie did a great job on Lady's coat , her coat felt so soft and looked amazing after Julies grooming .
I have peace of mind now knowing I can leave Lady and my other little lad in Richards care and they will be safe and cared for .
10 stars from Lady and I . Ann x..
